EMDR TRAINING PART 1 OVERVIEW

Approved for 18.25 hours of CE credits by the NY State Education Department's State Board for Social Work for NY State LCSWs and LMSWs AND Licensed Mental Health Counsellors (details below) and by the EMDR International Association.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is, perhaps, the most exciting psychotherapeutic development in the past twenty-five years. Research has repeatedly shown its effectiveness in treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and led to EMDR being recommended for treatment of PTSD by agencies in this country and abroad. In addition, many clinicians have found EMDR to be effective with a variety of other psychological problems and issues.

This first part of the basic EMDR training will begin Thursday evening, March 21, 5:30 – 9 pm, and continue all day Friday, March 22, and Saturday, March 23, 9 am – 5:30 pm, with a follow-up Thursday evening, May 9, 5:30 – 7 pm. Participants (who must be licensed mental health professionals or in a graduate program leading to licensure) will learn about:

This is an experiential workshop combining lecture, demonstration, and practice. Participants will spend approximately 35% of their time in small groups experiencing EMDR as a client and implementing it as a clinician. After some experience using parts of EMDR, the second part of the training and ten hours of group consultation (needed to complete the basic training in EMDR) deepens the participant's EMDR skills, teaches effective ways of implementing EMDR with more difficult clients, and offers opportunities to expand the use of EMDR into a wide variety of clinical areas.
