Training Assignments

Please note: As of August 15, 2007, the EMDR International Association has expanded the hours necessary to complete the basic training in EMDR. As a result of these new requirements, the Part 1 and Part 2 trainings have been expanded. Also, a ten hour group consultation requirement has been added. All phases of the trainings and consultation need to be satisfactorily completed to meet these new requirements.

ASSIGNMENTS FOR EACH TRAINING SECTION

EMDR TRAINING PART 1

  1. Prior to our initial meeting, please read at least the first four chapters in Shapiro's text, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy: Basic Principles, Protocols and Procedures. 3rd ed. Guilford, 2017.
  2. Please read Integrative Model of Psychotherapy – The Four Activity Model available at HowardLipke.com.
  3. Prior to the follow up session at the end of Part 1, complete three target assessment sheets (with Floatbacks) and hand them in when we next meet (they will not be returned).
  4. Prior to the follow up session read Shapiro's text through chapter 7.

EMDR TRAINING PART 2

  1. Prior to the initial session, please read through Chapter 10 (The Cognitive Interweave) in Shapiro's text.
  2. After the second full day of training, but prior to the follow up session finish reading Shapiro's text, and
  3. Complete one EMDR processing session and hand in both the Target Assessment sheet and a half page write up. (This will not be returned.)

GROUP CONSULTATION – TBA

The EMDR International Association requires 10 hours of group or individual consultation to complete your basic training. These hours focus on case consultation and additional skill practice and are designed to both enhance your EMDR skills and help you integrate EMDR into your therapy practice. These 10 hours of consultation may be obtained from me or my colleagues or any approved EMDRIA Consultant. (A list of EMDRIA approved consultants may be obtained at www.EMDRIA.org.)
